Acetal, often referred to by its trade name Delrin® is a remarkable engineering plastic. It is a lightweight, low friction plastic, often used in the Marine and food industry because of its low moisture absorption. It is a lightweight, low friction material, often used as a replacement for steel because of its mechanical strength and stiffness.
Available in both Sheet and Rod, in a huge array of sizes, Acetal comes in either Black or White. Sheet can be purchased in thicknesses ranging from 2mm up to 70mm. The sizes for rod begin at 4mm diameter and finish at 250mm.
Acetal is probably the best Engineering plastic to machine leaving an excellent surface finish and has quite an amazing portfolio of applications. Anything from musical instruments to machine bearings, diving equipment to motorcycle racers knee sliders.
White Acetal is one of the few engineering plastics which is approved by the Food Industry, thus making its usage even more diverse and because of it low moisture absorption and excellent machining ability, intricate components can be produced which remain stable.
Acetal is a tough engineering plastic with great wear properties which works well in both wet conditions and at reasonably high temperatures.
As with most engineering plastics, Acetal rod and sheet is usually manufactured oversize. Allowing for any minor surface finishes.
