Nylon - “Click” here to buy online

Nylon is an engineering plastic that has been with us for quite a while, since 1938 to be precise. In that time it has evolved into a very versatile and popular engineering thermoplastic.

Nylon is readily available in either rod or sheet form. Nylon rod comes in a range of diameters from 4mm, up to and over 500mm diameter. The bars are usually manufactured in either 1, 2 or 3 meter lengths depending on the diameter. Nylon sheet is also available in a variety of thicknesses, from 1mm up to 100mm thick and although the regular manufactured sheet size is usually 2m x 1m, we are delighted to offer an efficient cut to size facility for our customers.

Engineering Plastics are always manufactured oversized, ensuring the ability to finish machine to the size.

Nylon is generally available in Natural or Black., and natural, as the name suggests, is a slightly off white (creamy) colour. Black Nylon is Mos2 filled (molybdenum Disulphide), which provides a graphite type lubrication.

As well as being lightweight, Nylon is an extremely workable, easy machining engineering plastic which is very tough and able to withstand reasonably high operating temperatures. 100 degrees C short term - 160 degrees C long term. An excellent variant of Nylon that we supply is Oilon, easily identifiable by its green colour. Oilon is a superbly efficient, cost effective and oil blended self lubricating Nylon.

Another great Nylon variant is HS Blue Nylon which is a heat stabilized grade to help reduce any distortion due to machining.

Nylon is an engineering plastic that is often referred to by the use of trade names, some of the more popular ones are: Tecast, Ertalon, Polypenco, Tecamid, Nylatron, Polyamide and Lamigamid.

Because of its extremely high wear resistance, excellent sliding properties and great abrasion resistance, Nylon can be used in many applications. From bearings and wear blocks to wedges and handles.
